Plus you also get skip-the-line access, to many of the attractions included with the pass so you can avoid waiting in queues.

Why Buy the York Pass

If you’re planning a trip to York, we recommend definitely considering the York Pass. Here are some reasons why we believe you might want to buy the pass:

Save Money

The York Pass can help save you money on entry fees to over 25 attractions in and around York. Instead of paying for each attraction separately, you can buy the pass to get access to all 25 attractions for one set price. Plus, you’ll get discounts on some other attractions, shops, and restaurants in York and North Yorkshire.

Here’s an itinerary we’ve put together as example of how you could save money if you were to purchase a 1 day pass. This itinerary persumes you’ll be awake early (by 9am) and spend about 1 hour to 2 hours at each of the attractions listed plus travel time between them using the hop-on hop-off bus.

  • York Minster Cathedral – £16
  • JORVIK Viking Centre – £15
  • River Ouse Cruise – £12.50
  • York Castle Museum – £16
  • York City Sightseeing Hop on Hop off Bus – £16

Total admission costs: £75.50 for individual tickets, or £59 with the York Pass. Saving you £16.50.

Here’s an example of savings that can be had on a 2 day trip, this itinerary also presumes you’ll be awake early and spend 1 to 2 hours at each attraction plus the travel time using a hop on hop off bus:

Day 1:

  • York Minster Cathedral – £16
  • JORVIK Viking Centre – £15
  • River Ouse Cruise – £12.50
  • York Castle Museum – £16
  • York City Sightseeing Hop on Hop off Bus – £16

Day 2:

Note: The hop on hop off bus is only available for 24 hours, so on day 2 you’ll be walking or using public transport.

  • The York Dungeon – £21
  • Yorkshire Museum – £9.50
  • York Cocoa Works – £9.50
  • The Hilt (Adult only) – £23

Total admission for both days: £138.50 for individual tickets to each attraction. A 2 Day York Pass costs £75, saving you £63.50 over 2 days.

Even if you were to skip one or two of the things off the suggested itinerary (you’ll have to skip The Hilt you’re traveling with kids), you’d still make a really good saving on a 2 day pass!

Fast Track Pass

The York Pass can also save you time, as it includes a Fast Track entry to some attractions. This means you can skip the queues and spend more time enjoying the attractions. This really helps with getting your money’s worth by decreasing how long you’re hanging around between each attraction.

Convenience

Another benefit of the York Pass is its convenience. You can buy it online before your trip or at various locations in York, and it comes in a digital format that you can store on your phone. So you don’t have to carry around a physical pass or worry about losing it. You’ll also get access to a 24 hour hop-on hop-off bus ticket, making it easier to travel around the city.
